Istiklal Street is an only pedestrian street located at the heart of Istanbul on the European side.Istanbul- often called as ‘The gateway of Europe’ has an unique geographical characteristic. It is a city which is partially located in Europe and partially in Asia. In this article, I will share my experience on one of the happening places of the city- The Istiklal Street. Istiklal Street Istiklal Street stretches from Taksim Square nearly all the way to the landmark Galata Tower. There are numerous shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, book shops on Istiklal Street which is rather crowded at any time of the day and year. The avenue is surrounded by late Ottoman era buildings that were designed with Renaissance style. This place will never fail to surprise you and presents an idea how Turkish people enjoy their life. The ethnic beauty of Chittar in the Malayalam movie ‘Rithu’, can deceive you as the banks of a charming river. However the place is actually a dam and reservoir which has become yet another photographer’s paradise. It is picturesque for its calm waters  and the view of hills on one side. Quite far from the hustle and bustle of Trivandrum city, Chittar dam is a perfect getaway spot for a day. Chittar dams were constructed as part of the Kodayar System Major Irrigation Project. The project got completed on 1906 with a cost of 1.51 Cr. Other structures associated with this project are Pechiparai Dam, Perunchani Dam, Puthen Dam and Thiraparappu Weir. The project holds the waters of Kodayar, which joins the Arabian sea near Thengapatnam, (at a distance of 56 km west of Cape Commerin) and uses it for Irrigation purpose. This is the place where you will see the mighty Idukki dam and its reservoir from one of the highest points. The panoramic view from the top is simply exhilarating and refreshing. Just 5 KM from Idukki town and in the Idukki Kattappana route, Kalvari mount serves both as a refreshing picnic spot and as a Christian pilgrim centre called Kurisumala. At 3978 m, it is easily one of the highest mountain pass!  A 51 km drive from Manali and one of the main attractions in the state of Himachal Pradesh, Rohtang Pass got its name from its very own nature during the harsh winter season. Rohtang means ‘pile of corpses’. This is because once many people died trying to cross the pass during that period. But during summer and till autumn, when the pass gets officially opened every year, the snow capped mountains and the beautiful greenery, leaves a unique mark in the minds of travelers. The Beas river which originates from the Himalayas, flows through the Southern face of the pass at a height of 4361 metres (14308 ft). The Rohtang pass lies between valleys with different cultures. The Kullu Valley towards the south with more of Hindu culture and the high altitude Lahul and Spiti valleys towards the north with more of Budhist culture.
