The first bird sanctuary of kerala, which the famous ornithologist Salim Ali described as ‘The richest bird habitat on peninsular India’is all set for the Summer season with its latest developments. The last year had witnessed a good increase in the number of tourists visiting Thattekad. This included an increase in both domestic and well as the international tourists. Along with the bird watching, newly developed facilities include boating, butterfly park, view tower, watch tower, trekking and souvenir shops. The Sanctuary has also provided ample parking space and food courts for the tourists. Garden of Butterflies Thattekad bird sanctuary is also home to thousands of butterflies. The beautiful garden and its butterflies is a sense of excitement and joy for the kids who enjoys it to the maximum. Around 50 varieties of butterfly species are present in Thattekad alone.
