Thommankuthu Waterfalls Idukki, An ideal natural retreat

In order to experience the waterfalls at the fullest one has to trek almost 12 kms up hill. Because of the same reason tourists will prefer to trek up to first two falls thommankuthu and ezhunilakuthu.

The trekking experience will be memorable and you will be getting a very good opportunity to explore the nature in silence.The seven stepped waterfall is a major attraction of the region.There are also small cascades and rapids that certainly contribute to the look and feel. September to May is the best time to visit thommankuthu waterfalls. The rocks and trekking paths will be slippery during rainy seasons. Entry to Thommankuthu waterfall area is restricted to the hours between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

For the real adventure trekkers

There is a tribal village up the mountain. One need to trek almost 14 Kilometers through the thommankuthu forest to reach the hill top. This trek requires prior permission from the Forest Department. They will send a Forest Guard as escort as well.

It would be best if you can manage a local guide from there. The trekking path and rocks will be slippery and you will find some loose stones as well. It is advisable to have a good pair of trekking shoes with you for this journey.

You will see certain caves on your way and that will give some level of excitement for you. But playing with monkeys on your way is not safe and not recommended.

How to reach thommankuthu waterfalls

Thommankuthu is only 17 kms from Thodupuzha, one of the major nearby towns. There are regular bus services that take you from Thodupuzha to the waterfalls. From Thodupuzha, take Munnar bus that goes through Thommankuthu.
